the girl

someday, when we're old, wrinkly, and maybe have families of our own, we will remember the days we ran energetically in the backyard, played with dolls, played tag and played ball. but by then, youth will only be a memory. that innocent, beautiful, wrinkle-free young girl (or boy) will be gone. if we're lucky, that person will at least be a memory locked up in our mind and heart and will forever remain there so we can reminisce about who we once were and how simple the world seemed through those untainted eyes.
someday, reality will hit and fragments of that person will float away over time. i'll become something harder than clouds and many shades duller and darker than a rainbow. when im old, how much will i change? how much more different will i be from my younger self? what will life have to throw at me to make that poor girl disappear? i cant think of a life without her. i will try to cling onto that fading girl as long as i can. i wont let her disappear.
